What’s the best way for a fast start to Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend?  A hearty pancake breakfast served by the Rotary Club  of Wellesley.

Rotary and the Wellesley League partner for this 54th major fundraising event --  Little League athletes will descend on Wellesley homes, door to door, selling the tickets. Then, on Saturday, May 16, from 7:00 AM to2:00PM, Rotarians will serve up over 8,000 syrup laden delights.

The success of the annual event, with over 2,500 servings, depends on  ticket sales.  Every Little League player has tickets and the sales campaign is under way.  Tickets are priced at $7, or a bonus pack of four tickets for $20. If no one is home when the Little Leaguer arrives, tickets may be purchased at the door.  Children under age 3 are free.  Helping with ticket sales again this year are last year’s top salesmen:  Luke Quinn, Dean Behrand and Sam Stayn. This year there will be special appearances by the Red Sox mascot and the mascot of the Lowell Spinners.

Again this year the Pancake Festival is at the Wellesley Middle School, 50 Kingsbury St.  The Little League’s share of funds raised are used to purchase the balls, bats, bases and to hire umpires and pay overhead costs.  Top ticket sellers compete for prizes including tee shirts, certificates good at City Sports, Red Sox tickets and cash.  The top selling team can win a pizza party at Old School Pizza

“Wellesley Rotary is proud to continue this longstanding tradition supporting our town’s youth,”  said Mitchell Freeman, Rotary President and event chairman..  This event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our Rotarians’ talents and networks in service to others.  Community programs that Rotary was able to fund from last year’s festival include:  tutoring  special needs students at Fiske School, establishing  an adolescent wellness program for high school and middle school students, packaging saplings on Arbor Day, and sending high school students to leadership programs.

Sponsors for this 54th Pancake Festival are Roche Bros, Pinnacle Residential Properties, Old School Italian Pizzaria, Reynolds Electrical, H. A. Sancomb, Wellesley Bank, The Wellesley Townsman, Roberts Financial, Terriers Sports, MacNeil Glass, Whole Foods, Starbucks , Bertucci’s and 40 advertisers featured in The Townsman and on Festival placemats.
