GREETERS:

Thanks to PJ Wharton and John Holloway for serving as greeters and to PJ for doing our introductions.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAYThank you to Susie Wilkinson, who shared some favorite quotes that guide her life and her family’s lives too.   It was especially timely that one quote was from the late and greatest Mohammed Ali.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Crutches for Africa:  Rachelle Summers read a thank you note from Dave Talbot, Founder and head of Crutches4Africa in which he acknowledged our very successful drive.   Locations will continue to accept mobility devices all year long!

Ski Town Golf Classic:  Since this is now past tense, we look forward to a report on the event at our next meeting.   It was a perfect day for the golf teams at Catamount, followed by fun and fellowship at Strings, with some big winners from our club!    We will hear who won the Rex’s $100 gift card for most tickets sold and more details next week.  Congratulations and thanks to Jackie Brown and Glenn Traylor, Co-chairs and to the committee for a successful event!

Flower BarrelsGillian Morris announced – “We are almost there!”   It has been an amazing feat to repair, sand and stain nearly 200 barrels plus build an additional 30 barrels!   They look fantastic and this year will showcase an exceptional product – both the barrels and the flowers!   Many thanks to the many members who have devoted time and effort to this endeavor and to Gillian, Kathy Elliott and Eric Rabesa for leading us on this project.   We will still need some final help – more details to follow – and then for the delivery on Tuesday, June 14th   we need more trucks and more hands.  This is always a fun evening of service and fellowship with a barbecue, catered by Smokehouse at the Community Center – Families welcome and even if you don’t help deliver the barrels, come for the dinner – ready at 5:30.    Gillian and Eric will send out an email for final needs and instructions.

Summer Exchange Students:  We heard from two of our summer exchange students, outgoing student, Olivia Hobson, who will be going to Thailand for 3 weeks and her incoming counterpart, Bam, from Thailand, who will be staying with Olivia's family.  Both shared their appreciation for the opportunity and Bam gave us a flag from her home club.  We will look forward to hearing from Olivia when she returns and wish Bam an enjoyable stay here in Steamboat.

Rotarian of the Month:  Rachelle Summers received the April Rotarian of the Month Award for her leadership with our Crutches4Africa Drive.  Rachelle took the reign of this project having never been involved with it, and made it even better and more impactful.  Stay tuned as Rachelle continues to see that this project carries on all year long.

PROGRAM

Part One:  We were able to hear from several more of our grant recipients:  Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, Yampatika, Young Tracks, The Chief Theatre and the NW Center for Independence.   Again, all worthy organizations and we thank them for sharing with us how our grants are being used to help them serve our community.

Part Two:

Many thanks to Past District Governor and Past President, Mike Forney, who graciously offered to do a program for us on his recent trip to Brazil.  Mike received an important honor through being asked by RI President Ravi, to be his representative at a Rotary district conference in southern Brazil.  However, we were not as gracious to Mike as he to us, as we lost his slide show connection about half way through his presentation.    Apologies to Mike,  and needless to say, Mike carried on and gave us an interesting look at the culture of Brazil  - how else but through stories of the Rotarian hospitality that he and Janet received on their trip?!   We also know Mike performed his duties well and may we say “with Rotary pride!?”  Thank you Mike for sharing with us.

GOOD NEWSThanks to Scott Marr who did Good News.  It seemed to have an exceptionally high number of congratulations – Much to do with our children….from 8th grade graduations to high school graduations to a forthcoming “second” attorney at the US Supreme Court.  And add in Lynaia’s successful marathon.  All good news!

NEXT WEEK:   NO NOON MEETING.  Flower Barrels delivery.  Meet at 5:00 at CMC followed by a barbecue at Community Center beginning at 5:30. All welcome, whether you deliver barrels or not.  Children too!

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Kendall, Club President
