Every Friday we get together for breakfast and fellowship with people in our community. For Rotarians new and seasoned, it is easy to forget that we are also part of an international organization.

As members of the international organization, we have a greater responsibility as well as a greater opportunity to bring positive change to our world as well as our local community. We do this by supporting the goals and initiatives of Rotary International. What are these goals and initiatives you ask?

Each year our Rotary International President sets the standard by putting together a list of requirements that must be met for our club to earn the Presidential Citation. The following is an extremely abbreviated version of the goals our 2008-09 RI President, D.K. Lee, has established for each club to "Make Dreams Real".

  • Initiate a local or international service project that reduces child mortality.
  • Achieve a net increase of one member by 31 March 2009. (Suggested goal: Achieve a net membership increase of 10 percent.)
  • Accomplish one goal from a list of options in each of these areas; Membership, Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service and International Service.
While these goals help us to accomplish D.K. Lee's theme mission, they also help to ensure the continued prosperity of Rotary and its good work in the world.

If you would like to take part in accomplishing our goals and "Make Dreams Real" for children, please visit with President Steve Hanik or President Elect Lisa Griffin about joining a committee that can certainly use your assistance.
