Rotary, as part of Future Visions, has fielded a program to help in world-wide development. The new program (really not so new now) is Vocational Training Teams. Clubs and Districts are putting together grant requests that will allow them to field teams locally, nationally or internationally focused on developing a better understanding of a specific profession, or actually assisting in the professional development of a specific group of professionals in a community.

Sound familiar? It should. It's a natural outgrowth of several other like-programs, most noticeably the GSE team.

This team, however, is GSE on steroids!!! Teams of professionals come together and partner with other clubs and districts to provide much needed services and training not only helping a community in the short-term, but assisting in developing training and development programs that will last and continue the improvements begun with the visit of the team. For instance; the team of pediatric surgeons and staff from Indiana that went to Africa to not only conduct pediatric surgeries (they did 11), but to assist the local medical personnel to establish lasting continuing education programs that will continue to improve pediatric health care. This is their third team visit. Other clubs are focusing on teacher training, or the development of training programs. The exchange of ideas and cultures is still there and the contribution to peace and understanding is taken to a new level. Over the rest of this month, and this year, I'd like each of us to think about what professional skills we have in this club (too many to even try to inventory) and how we could put several teams together to assist both here locally, as well as throughout the world. Let's put a team together and go help the world. We can do it!!!!!

In the Spirit of Rotary,

Dave
