Making a difference through Rotary Youth Exchange
When Gabriela Vessani was 12 years old, her mother took her to stay with friends in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, for the summer. “I loved it, so when I heard about Rotary Youth Exchange, I knew that was something I wanted to do,” says Vessani, who is an Interactor from São Paulo. This year, Vessani participated in the program. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Waterdown, Ontario, Canada, she stayed with four families, one of which included adopted children from different parts of the world.    “They had seven children, and it was crazy for me. But I loved it,” she says. “It was such a unique...
Bringing education to rural Mexican area, one school at a time
When Mariana Day moved in 1989 to the small beach town of Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico, she noticed that the surrounding rural areas struggled to maintain schools. And most children weren’t able to go beyond an eighth-grade education. Day, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Bahía de Jaltemba-La Peñita, in Nayarit, had started a local scholarship program before she joined Rotary. Called Changing Lives, the program provided students with high school tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and transportation. In addition, Rotary clubs from the United States and Mexico have been investing in the...
Meet our polio partners
From the September 2015 issue of The Rotarian Eradicating polio is a complex job. August 14, 2013 is another date that will be remembered by the Rotary Club for three good reasons - our best supporter for many years, Davis, Saperstein and Salomon, LLC, has formally joined us as the newest members of the Rotary Club of Teaneck.  Danielle Richards, a renowned photographer right here in Teaneck has also taken the this wonderful step in joining our Rotary Club.   And thirdly, our own Larry Bauer is now installed as Vice President a role that fits him like a glove.

These new members will be carrying on a legacy that has existed since the Teaneck Club was chartered in 1929. PDG Ruff presented the inductees with an overview of Rotary from the club level, the district level as well as the international level. He briefly discussed the history as well as the accomplishments for which Rotary is known. Rotary, PDG Ruff shared with the new inductees the Five Avenues of Service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service and New Generations.

To continue this great lunch, Helen Nylander, a Rotarian here in Teaneck and Sierra Leone has provided an extensive presentation on the progress of our solar-panel project. Helen spearheaded the school project to provide lighting for a girls’ boarding school in Sierra Leone.

Please visit ourImage facebook page for more photos of that day.

Teaneck Rotary was well represented at the Teaneck July 4th Parade. Always tons of fun. Thank you to Teaneck Shell /James for providing us with the truck which was beautifully decorated and Howard Rosen for the early breakfast. You can view our pictures on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/teaneckrotaryclub

Thank you to all that were able to participate on our drive on Sunday. Our seniors will appreciate all of the effort made. There are currently no programs that offer financial assistance to seniors in need of adult “briefs” or other incontinence products, making these necessities for independent living unattainable “luxury” items.  Access to these items is a “basic human need” which allows senior adults to remain mobile, social and productive. Without them, many healthy older people are trapped in their homes, fearful of joining social functions, trips to libraries or the movies, or even attending their own grandchild’s wedding!

If you plan to attend our meeting this week and were not able to be there Sunday, you can still bring a donation of adult absorbent briefs to the meeting.
