Last Thursday, as our guest speaker was unable to attend due to Orientation Week at Uni, we had a “Round Robin” of interesting snippets from the 16 attendees. It was a wonderfully relaxed and humorous evening, and made all the better with two visitors – Pat and Jody – who will soon be inducted into the Club.
On Saturday evening, John W, Rob, Erfan and his extended family (minus some of the younger children) and I attended the Grand Opening of the Afghanistan Pamir Council Australia ceremony held at the Colossus Panrhodian Society building on Henley Beach Road (just down from the award-winning Parwana Restaurant!). Erfan (who is a member) posted an open invitation in the Cuppa Conversation “WhatsApp” page and invited other special guests to the evening. Two “Cuppa” attendees – Carolina and Sabrina also joined the festivities. Erfan’s brother Wahab sang the Quran prayers, the children all went up on stage to waive Afghan and Australian flags during the two anthems, the two women MCs explained the landscape and culture of Afghanistan (in two languages for all to understand) and what the Council plans to do in the future. The camaraderie of the evening started before we even entered, with greetings at the door, solicitous provision of drinks and nibbles, wonderful conversations and then the excellent meal that had us going back for more. A ribbon was formally cut by about 10 or 12 invited guests – we all cut just a snippet of the ribbon – as well as a total cut to celebrate the grand opening of the Council.
I look forward to seeing you at the White Picket Café at 9.30am this Thursday.
Best wishes and have a wonderful week. Yvette, President.

A grade one teacher handed out a colouring-in page to her class. On it was a picture of a duck holding an umbrella.
The teacher told her class to colour the duck in yellow and the umbrella green, however, Bobby, the class rebel, coloured the duck in a bright fire truck red.
After seeing this, the teacher asked him: "Bobby, how many times have you see a red duck?"
Young Bobby replied with "The same number of times I've seen a duck holding an umbrella."
