In last week’s Newsletter, I forgot to add that our guest speaker, Verity Edwards, had given us a delightful talk on her experiences as a year-long Exchange student to Belgium in 1993 and how this helped her with her career in journalism and public relations. Verity has had a long association with Rotary as a Rotaractor, RYLA participant, and helped set up ROTEX (for Exchange students) in 1994. Verity travelled widely in her early years, returning to Europe several times to work in TV and radio, extending her French language skills, and undertaking cycling and other aerobic forms of exercise. Verity worked as an interpreter at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and spent a great deal of her working life as a journalist for ABC Port Pirie and Adelaide, Radio 5AA, Messenger newspapers, the Australian where she covered politics, court stories and natural disasters. She has been working for Tim Hughes PR for the past 4 years. A very interesting talk.
During the week, Lili and I went to Catherine House to put up a plaque (the original one had disappeared) commemorating our Club’s installation of a pergola and establishment of a garden and watering system for the women at the shelter to have a peaceful haven to use. Photo shows Lili in the garden (planted in 2018) in great condition.
I look forward to seeing you at the Kent Town Hotel this coming Thursday at 6pm.
Best wishes and have a delightful four day celebration of Easter/holiday season. Yvette, President.
