Thanks to everyone who endured the amazingly hot conditions last Monday on the Adelaide Cup Day BBQ at Bunnings. Even with the shorter working hours and a water demister to cool down the tent’s inhabitants, the heat was still a trial to endure while cooking and serving the public. Come hell (hot weather) or high water, the infamous Bunnings snag must be cooked. Apparently, if a Service Club can’t attend or leaves early, the Bunnings staff are incumbent to continue cooking for the public (interesting fact I learned last Wednesday night at a Bunning’s community meeting). Thanks go to Di, Bruce, Liz, Yvette, Pat, John W, Elaine, Paul J, Keith F, Dean, and Lili for their endurance! Our net profit of $980 towards Rotary projects makes it worthwhile.
Our next Bunnings BBQ will be held on Easter Saturday 30 March. If those who work during the business week (when we are usually rostered for a Bunnings BBQ day) could let Di know that they are happy to volunteer for this day, that would provide a rest for some of the usual 10 people who cook and serve on a weekday BBQ. Hopefully, it will be mid-20s temperatures on the day.
Secretary Di received a lovely email from Dennis Hogan, Vice President of the Rotary Club of Hornsby District in Sydney where our former members Brian Harvey and Carol Ganley have been attending, and will soon be joining. It’s lovely that Rotary is not losing two active and popular members. Carol and Brian will be at Thursday’s meeting as they are visiting Adelaide this week.
I look forward to seeing you at the Croquet Club this Thursday at 7.00am for our breakfast speaker Verity Edwards. Verity was a former Exchange Student to Belgium and now undertakes a career in journalism/public relations. It should a lovely speech about her career journey.
We have a Board meeting after breakfast, feel free to stay and listen if you have the time.
Best wishes and have a wonderful week. Yvette, President.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.
