The Ken November 5, 2018
Attendance: Scott swan
Split Club: Bill Brucker
Invocation: Tim Glor
Fine Master: John Coogan
The Ken: Jeff Markarian
We began our meeting at 1:00 with the Pledge. Chuck led us in “God Bless America”. Tim Glor gave our invocation and asked that we keep Joe Starck in our prayers.
First announcement was from Gary. There will be a gift gathering party at the Knights of Columbus on Kenmore Ave. December 2 at 1:00 pm. Bring a wrapped gift to get in and enjoy the raffle, food and drinks. Mike Ford announced there will be a “Caring for Caregivers” event Thursday, November 29 from 10 am to 2 pm.  Caregivers of those with dementia are invited to join them for a day of pampering. Let them care for your loved one while enjoy free massages, lunch from Be Healthy Buffalo, Buffalo Meal works and a presentation by Katie Bandeau from Alzheimer’s Association of WNY. To register, contact Mike Ford 835-2543 x 129. Kathy P reminded us that this Saturday is small business Saturday. Please support the small business in our community. Chuck P requested that we encourage people to apply for Funding from our Foundations. Application are on the website. And finally, Donna’s colleague, Eli is opening his church Sunday, Nov. 25, 10:00 am at 1862 Seneca Street. There will be a signup sheet at our table Monday for the Christmas Party at Park Country Club November 30. Bring a wrapped gift with a minimum value of $25 and we’ll have fun with that.
John Coogan was our fine master today. Mike Ford went to wedding in VA. Lost things to talk about after 7 ½ hours. And Chuck P is back from Cancun. John gave us Turkey questions and raised some money.
Scott won the Split Club and Donna missed the Ace.
We did not have a speaker today. Larry explained what is going on with the Rotary Youth Exchange. Larry announced that the KW Youth Exchange applicant was interviewed by Jill Norton from Buffalo Sunrise Rotary Club. She confirmed that she's an excellent candidate.  If our club wants to consider sponsoring her, we'd need to provide or obtain 2 to 3 host families for the subsequent inbound YE student to live with during the '19-'20 school year. If anyone knows of such families please get in touch with Larry (Lorenzocoon@yahoo.com) as soon as possible. If we cannot, Jill's club might sponsor her. I was later informed that instead, our club could consider sponsoring a short term exchange student this summer which is a one month "direct exchange" so host families are not needed. It's also a no cost option for the sponsoring Rotary Club. Sounds like an easy way to get our feet wet with the YE program. Stay tuned.
