Intro:  Rotarian Lee Ann Shobe

Topic:  Concussions is a far greater risk than many people realize. After this lecture, participants will be able to;

  1. Recognize common symptoms and signs of concussion.
  2. Understand the importance of a “team approach” for concussion treatment
  3. Understand the rational for current “best-practice guidelines’ for concussion treatment.
  4. Understand the importance of safe “return-to activity” guidelines.

Bio:  Dr.  Mistry earned his medical Degree from the University of Madras, India and completed his Residency in Medicine from the University of Virginia.  He also earned a Master in Science Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is a Certified Athletic Trainer. He comes to Grand Junction after working at the University of Virginia, where he has served as the Primary Care Team Physician, Co-Medical Director for the Department of Athletics, and Associate Professor for the University since 2002.  Currently, he is a Consultant Team Physician for USA Swim Team and has traveled to numerous international competitions.  He worked with USA Soccer and successfully completed a “physician internship” with the United States Olympic Committee.  He is published in various scientific journals.  His areas of interest include preventive and therapeutic primary care sports medicine, pre-participation cardiovascular screening for athletes, and community educational programs to enhance health and wellness.
