Civil War Vets of Grand Junction / Service Above Self Awards

Intro:  Rotarian Vicki Canaday

Topic:  Garry Brewer is sharing with us the story of a unique meeting for Grand Junction Rotary in 1928.  The Club had invited all the surviving Civil War veterans that then lived in Mesa County.  Except for one, all of these gentlemen were former Union troops.  In this presentation, we will discover the significant the local chapter(s) of the Grand Army of the Republic had on Mesa County.  Picture was taken at Lincoln’s 200th Birthday in Grand Junction, July 4, 2009.

Bio:  Garry Brewer is the Past Department Commander of the CO/WY, which includes Utah. The Department Commander oversees all Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camps within those states.  Garry is also a contributing author to the Free Press and serves as a Board Member at the Museum of Western Colorado.
