Welcome our Rotary Youth Exchange Student

Thomas & Kirsten Grundner of Micheldorf, Austria, bid their son Christopher "farewell" at the Munich Airport last Friday.  After a ten-hour flight, Chris arrived in Denver and was welcomed by his first host family -- The Nikolaus Family -- Kathy, Larry, and Annie.  You will get an opportunity to meet Chris at this Friday's meeting and hear from him about his home and family in Austria.  Chris will start school on Monday the 15th at Discovery Canyon Campus H.S. in District 20.

Foundation Donation Information

Past-President Matt Otten contacted me this week to say he noticed there was no credit in his Donor History Report (www.rotary.org) for his donations to the Foundation for the past year.  Well, we looked into it and found there was a procedural error in our accounting of the donations to the Foundation for the past year -- the money made it to the Foundation, but the donors' names and amounts did not.  The last credits appear to be July 2015.  This only involves donations to the Foundation through our club, usually through quarterly billing.  Donations that were made directly to the Foundation (Online, Rotary Direct, and check by mail) were credited correctly.

So, our Executive Secretary, the Foundation Chair, and the Treasurer will be putting together a revised list that will then be submitted to the Rotary Foundation for a correction to your individual records.  Rotary informed me today that this process takes about four to six weeks to complete.  So, look for your records to be corrected by around October 1st.

9th Annual Flight Gala & Auction
9th Annual FLIGHT Gala and Auction

Having been part of the Rotarian Family for just over a year has been inspiring and compelling. To be surrounded on a weekly basis with a group of people whose mission it is to impact humanity locally and internationally is profound. That being said, it is an honor to be involved on this year's Flight Committee where our local chapter of Rotary will strive to make a difference in School District 11. With the commitment from fellow Rotarians, local leaders and the community, last year The Rotary Club of Colorado Springs, through the Flight Gala, was able to raise over $100k and provide grants to District 11 and our Club Service Fund, including funding a purchase for green screen technology for Palmer High School.

This year at the Gala, in addition to the Butterfly Auction and Silent Auction, we will be offering a Wine Pull. This is a fun opportunity to help us raise additional funds. If you are not familiar with a wine pull, the idea is to donate $20 and draw from a barrel of wine corks to win a fabulous bottle of wine. To make this fundraiser possible, we need your help! The Committee is asking that if possible, each Rotarian contribute a bottle of wine for the Pull; with a value of $20 or more. Any donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Please bring all contributions to the Friday club lunch.

In advance, we as a committee want to thank you for making this year's Flight a huge success!
