District Governor David Wood
District 5470

Today we welcome David Wood and his wife Cathy to the best Rotary Club in downtown Colorado Springs.  The DG actually HAS to visit EVERY club in the district during his year of tenure. In the case of District 5470, that means David Wood and Cathy are going to be traveling all over the southern two thirds of Colorado in the next few months. We get to be one of his very first clubs they visit!

David was raised in Maine and graduated from Maine Maritime Academy and a commission as Ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve.  He was employed for ten years by Texaco and in 1976 was selected to join the Sabine Pilots Association.  As a Sabine Pilot for 27 years he was responsible for over 2,500 safe vessel transits of the Sabine-Neches Waterway.

Living in Beaumont, Texas for 37 years Dave became very involved in the community. He always focused on youth so umpiring Little League baseball, junior high youth counselor at his church or Boy Scouts were natural avenues of service.  He also served on the Beaumont Housing Authority and chaired a special advisory committee to the Captain of the Port U. S. Coast Guard.   Dave joined the Rotary Club of Beaumont in 1988 and over the years received several distinguished awards.

Following retirement David and Cathy decided to leave Texas and make their vacation home in Salida their residence joining the Salida Rotary Club in 2011.  David is a multi-Paul Harris Fellow, a Paul Harris Society Member and a Major Donor of The Rotary Foundation.

David and Cathy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of 2018 and have two children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They enjoy travel, skiing and anything that the great outdoors of Colorado has to offer.

David and Cathy, welcome to Colorado Springs!
