Dan Chambers Memorial
Obituary for Daniel B. Chambers
Dan was born in Tucson on October 13, 1948 and died peacefully from kidney disease. A proud son and grandson of pioneer media and community leaders spanning over 100 years in Tucson. Dan graduated from St. Joseph’s Parochial School, Rincon High School and Northern Arizona University. Named the Outstanding Graduating Senior for the Class of 1970, Dan was active in NAU campus activities such as: Sigma Nu Fraternity, Sopho and Blue Key Honor Societies and Mom & Dad’s Day Co-Chairman. Following graduation, he was appointed to serve as a Senate Intern for Senator Barry Goldwater in Washington DC. After active duty in the U.S Army, he joined the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) in 1971 and over the next 15 years served in various management assignments in the Marketing, Human Resources and Public Affairs Divisions. In 1981 he was promoted into senior Management for ARCO as the Regional Director of State and Local Government Relations with responsibility for 11 Midwestern States.
In 1985 his business career continued with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services (Phoenix), Tucson Conquistadors/Tucson Open and Chambers Consulting Inc. In 1993 Dan started his final career path by returning to the world of real estate and started selling residential real estate for Tucson Realty & Trust Company. He was named a TOP 10 agent for the firm in 1995. In 1996 he joined Long Realty Company as Director of Corporate Accounts specializing in Executive Corporate Relocation. A consummate professional, he was consistently named as one of the Top 5% of all Real Estate Agents in Southern Arizona.
One of Dan’s many passions was giving back to the communities (Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles & Louisville.) he resided and worked in over his many years of professional employment. In Tucson, he continued his joy of active community service, a family tradition, by serving on the follow board and organizations – El Rio Community Health Center Foundation, Pima Community College Foundation, Tucson Parks Foundation Board, Ronald McDonald House, 25 year member of The Rotary Club of Tucson, Arizona Historical Society, Primavera Foundation volunteer, 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus and Caballeros Del Sol a Economic Development Organization. He was also past President of the Copper Bowl Century Club, Past “El Jefe” of the Caballeros Del sol, past President for the Arizona Historical Society for the Tucson fiesta Bowl Committee.
Having been raised in Tucson and appreciating what a great place this was to live, Dan personally got the biggest pleasure in mentoring and guiding many young people in the Tucson community by helping them make connections and good decisions for their professional and community development. His crowning achievement in this endeavor was the creation and founding of a unique fundraising organization for the El Rio Community Health Center Foundation. It is called the El Rio Vecinos and is made up of some of the top young professionals from throughout the Tucson Community. Known affectionately as “Big Pappa” by all the Vecinos members, Dan was also recognized by the El Rio Community Health Center as the Philanthropist of the Year in 2014.
Dan was preceded in death by his most cherished and loving parents, Harry & Mary Chambers. He is survived by this best friend and wife, Tina Chambers and son Paul Chambers, stepchildren Stacey (John) Adams, Jason Morrison and Christopher (Nikkii) Morrison. Also Uncle Tom and Aunt Peggy Paul and numerous cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his faithful four legged companion, Abbey, who put a smile and a lick on his mug everyday for many years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The El Rio Community Health Center Foundation.
