Rotary Meeting Recap      Thursday November 2, 2023
President John opened the meeting to a full house.  Assistant District Governor Barbara Barr-Bengan , lead us in the pledge

  • Our guests included:  District Governor Don Jorgensen, Kim Johnson, and Jack Hunter.
  • John thanked the team who delivered dictionaries to third graders at local schools this week.  Jim Fry shared that one of the children was so excited he asked if he could take his new dictionary to recess to read it.  There will be another delivery tomorrow in Oracle.
  • Happy Dollars:  Dan Watson was happy he wasn’t the only one in his house who forgot today was his wedding anniversary.  Lynn Devou just returned from a trip to Hawaii to celebrate her 20th anniversary, and Mollie Hunter was happy she overcame the challenge of mastering the Youth Protection website training. Barbara Barr Bengan was happy that October was behind her, and she and Bill learned that you can live without a refrigerator.
  • President John shared the club’s recognition of becoming a “Silver Status Hero” with ShelterBox.
Rotarian of the Month:  Dan Chambers and Mollie Hunter—Were recognized for their hard work on our recent fundraiser, Monster Bash
There are several ways all members can help with the Ride to End Polio.  You can ride in El Tour de Tucson.  Tour de Ranch, Tour de SaddleBrooke, Tour de Your Living Room, Tour de Your Local Gym.  Please remember this important event to End Polio Now.  All contributions will receive a 2:1 match from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

  • Nov 18 - Distribute 350 IMPACT Thanksgiving Meals, 11:30A – 2:30P at Santa Catalina Catholic Church, Volunteers Needed: 10 – 12
  • The volunteer needed activities will be posted digitally via Club Runner, sign-up will be electronic.
Our Speaker District Governor Don Jorgenson:  Gave an engaging presentation about the Hidden Secret of Rotary.  He talked about the work the district and RI are doing to adapt and evolve.  He shared stories of his international Rotary travels and how our clubs are people of action, not just check writers.  For more information go to the District 5500 website and look at the strategic plan that was developed.
 
Don also had the honor of presenting Paul Herr with his Paul Harris +6 recognition pin for Paul’s continued support of The Rotary Foundation.
