RYE Student Olivia Barnes Presentation Test Run

With her Year 11 exams now finished (along with two Year 12 subjects) Olivia Barnes, the Outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student for whom Allen Stanley is providing the counsellor role, addressed the 1730th meeting of the Rotary Club of Hyde Park with a first run of the presentation she will give to host Clubs in Switzerland in 2017.

Although quite nervous, Olivia (supported by her father Phil) presented an interesting illustrated talk about herself, her family, her friends, her link to Rotary through her grandfather (Ken Vear, Rotary Club of Morialta), her state and her first host family in Switzerland. Attending members provided several complimentary comments and suggestions for inclusions in her next draft.

It was a pleasure to finally have an opportunity for Olivia to meet the Club and develop a friendship that we hope will endure. President Mike presented Olivia with a Club cap for herself and a couple of Club banners to give to host Clubs.

Olivia, Phil and Allen will attend a final briefing day for all outbound students on Saturday 3rd December at Strathalbyn High School when tour blazers will be presented, instructions about final preparations for the 20th January 2017 departure are imparted, parents are informed about technical aspects of the Youth Exchange Program and students are reminded about critical issues of safety and expectations during their exchange.

Allen is looking forward to regular contact with Olivia and her family while she is away and will provide updates for the Club at meetings and on the website.

Olivia, have a safe, enjoyable and educational trip. We are here when you need us.
