THE ROTARY CLUB OF EVERETT
 
Meeting of March 17, 2020 #34 (5339)/ #1 Virtual Meeting, was called to order by President Steve Miller who then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  President Steve stated a few history tidbits about the Pledge of Allegiance. The Thought of the Day was Irish Blessings for St. Patrick’s Day read by Tammy Dunn.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
President Steve- Use of video conferences for general meeting, duration, options
  • The virtual meeting will keep the format as same as in person meetings.
President Steve - Video conferences available for other meetings (board, committees, etc.)
  • We will use the same system for other meetings including board and committee when we cannot meet in person.
President Steve - District conferences status, procedure
  • District conference has been officially cancelled. Hotel reservations will be cancelled. The District will refund money but will take some time.
  • We are working on a way to induct the new members as we would like to induct them sooner rather than later.
Russ Kimball – Scholarship committee, interview status update, ceremony update, options
  • The student of the month for March has been cancelled. An agreement with the schools will shift the March student to the month to April 6th. There will be 6 students honored in April.
  • As the school is closed until April 24th, Russ is working with Becky on the scholarship interviews and ceremony. We are a little behind in the process due to the current situation.
Kelli Thode – Checking in on our own Rotarians, discussion, phone tree?  Assisting with supplies if needed?
  • Kelli is putting together a phone tree - check in with everyone. volunteer to help make a call and/or get items for someone, so that we may help our fellow Rotarians who may need assistance and to stay connected during this time.
George Bowden - Update on wheelchairs, Dominican Republic trip, Panama trip
  • Cancelled both trips; George and Diane may go down themselves; can reschedule for next year. He stated that we can carryover the money to 2021.
  • Wheelchairs have been shipped. Knights of Columbus has distributed to Dominican Republic however some of the wheelchairs have never picked up. He is working to ensure that they get delivered.
Garth Fell - Exchange Student Update
  • RYE students - Alice is returning this Sunday to Japan; mother and district ask that she returns, think of ways to let her know that we can express our appreciation; thank you to the McGuire's.
  • Jacqueline, Student in Taiwan is doing well, feels more safe and her host family is taking care of her.
Call for Other Announcements
  • Judi Edwards - VOA volunteering has been cancelled; VOA does need food.
  • Tammy Dunn - Taking notes for the log report, so that anyone who missed the meeting may have access to them on the website.
 
HAPPY DOLLARS:
  • Steve Miller - $100 for first virtual meeting - bell ringer
  • Kelli Thode - Blood banks are affected, encouraged to donate, still having blood drives; coming up on 3/24 - Everett Chapter building; 3/30 - 3/31 - in Marysville
  • Kelly Shepherd - $20 have santizer
  • Bob Bavasi - delightful conversation with Larry O’Donnell and enjoys the phone calls
 
RAFFLE:
President Steve asked us, fellow Rotarians, to keep track of the money you purchase for Raffle tickets, so that when we meet again in person then we may have an awesome Raffle.
 
We discussed the ability to donate on the website through Clubrunner. The button is on the website.
 
PROGRAM
Our program was the opportunity to have the Rotary Club of Everett’s first-ever Virtual meeting. There were 50 people joining the meeting either by webcam or phone. It was a great turn out! Thank you everyone for participating!
 
President Steve recorded a First for his Rotary Year! Kudos to President Elect Nominee Greg Lineberry for sending out the instructions and setting up Zoom.
 
CONCLUSION
President Steve thanked everyone for attending the first Virtual Rotary Club of Everett meeting. He adjourned the meeting with Rotary Connects the World.
