July is Rotary Literacy Month - Whatcom Literacy Council

July is Rotary Literacy Month. This week we will have our second program on literacy, brought to you by Whatcom Literacy Council, an organization that matches volunteer tutors with adult basic literacy learners and English Language Learners.

Bio: Katherine Freimund has been executive director of the Whatcom Literacy Council since 2013.  Before that she worked with a number of local nonprofits, including serving as the Director of Administration at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County. She has a B.A. from the University of Chicago, a Masters in Public Administration from Suffolk University in Boston, and served in the US Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa.  She has been an AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) scholar, a Leadership Whatcom participant (2015), a WWU Community Engagement Fellow (2016), and was on the Whatcom Council of Nonprofits for many years.  She currently is on the Whatcom Asset Building Coalition steering committee, and the WBA Youth Engagement Initiative steering committee. In her spare time she helps bring Humanities Washington "Think & Drink" events to Bellingham.  She is a Taurus, and her favorite color is blue
