"The Story of Trayvax"
Oct 26, 2015
Bio: Mark King was born in Annapolis, Maryland, where his father taught leadership at the Naval Academy and later became a nuclear submarine captain. When Mark was eight his family moved across the world and put down roots on Bainbridge Island, a small community a ferry boat ride from Seattle. Mark went through his school years as a tinkerer and eventually built an electric car, earned Eagle Scout, and received his first patent before age 18. After high school, while studying machining at Bellingham Technical College, Mark sold his invention, a device called an “organoleptic analysis machine”, to General Mills for testing the longevity of preservatives in Nature Valley granola bars. With the funds earned from that experience, Mark launched his first company, Trayvax Enterprises, from his apartment. During the company’s inception, Mark’s story was featured in the New York Times and he gave a TEDx talk about taking on big projects. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/23/business/a-young-inventor-finding-the-crunch-factor.html?_r=0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QkJgDB-iyk Now, three years later, Trayvax Enterprises employs 31 people and has sold upward of 90,000 products worldwide. Important aspects for Mark King are building an entrepreneurial company culture based on personal responsibility and lean methods, where a portion of profits and brainpower can be used to develop solutions to global water problems. At age 25, Mark’s current goals are to attend MIT while continuing to grow Trayvax into a leading US outdoor product company.

Fund Raising
Nov 09, 2015
Club Assembly November 9, 2015 This club assembly is intended to allow all members to discuss the following items and give responses for the board to consider as we plan for the future of the RCOB. We understand that there will be varying opinions and want to hear all of those while still finding areas of consensus. Please take part in the discussion at your table and be honest. The board will consider every opinion that is recorded as well as looking at what may seem to be a majority view. Also, feel free to write down your personal opinion separately if it varies from your table-mates and send it to President Chuck, President Elect Del or Teri Treat. At each table, please choose someone to record the results of your discussion on the sheet attached. These will be gathered at the end of the meeting for review by the board. We have given you materials at a previous meeting so that you could begin thinking about these items. Another copy is included for your use today. Thanks for your participation and your opinions. The club’s future activities will be better if they reflect the preferences of its members. QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
a. Should we continue to raise a set amount (currently $100,000) in one major fundraising effort? b. Should it be our policy to set aside money from smaller activities (Wacky Wickets, etc.) to be available throughout the year for projects or needs that arise after we have chosen our major project or c. Should we routinely set aside a percentage of our total raised for the major project (say 20 or 25%) for projects or needs that arise during the year?

Community Preparedness Education (CPE)
Dec 21, 2015
The presentation is called Community Preparedness Education (CPE) and it is an informal discussion of disaster preparedness for our community. We talk about potential disasters that could strike here and how to get prepared for some of them. This includes a discussion of actual items to have on hand, but also some of the plans or protocols we could put in place beforehand to make the immediate aftermath unfold more smoothly and with less anxiety. We also talk about where to get real-time information during a disaster and where in this community to get some training now so that we can help ourselves and neighbors in the event of some kind of disaster in the future. My name is Prentiss Andrews and I am the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator here in the Bellingham office for the American Red Cross. My job is to work with community organisations to promote preparedness and resiliency in the face of potential disasters and emergencies. I am a recent transplant to the Bellingham area (since 2012). I am originally from Kitsap County. I moved here to complete my degree at Western in geology. Before going back to school my first career was in energy development. I worked for six years for a Seattle based energy development company, prospecting for and building utility scale wind energy plants around the Western United States.
