Our Speaker for today is Ken Hardie Member of Parliament Fleetwood-Port Kells
A broadcaster and a senior public affairs manager, Ken Hardie has spent his career connecting people with information, resources, and services in order to better inform and engage people in their communities.
Ken began his career in broadcasting as a commentator, announcer, and interviewer with various radio and television affiliates across BC and Western Canada, and as a freelance print media reporter. As a communication director in the public sector, at both the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) and TransLink, he has been closely involved with key public safety and regional development initiatives across BC and in Metro Vancouver, including Surrey.
Ken designed and implemented innovative mass and social media campaigns that enabled public dialogue, and helped inform major provincial and regional policies. These range from life-saving road safety programs for ICBC, the communication program for the regional transportation authority during the 2010 Winter Olympics, through to direct media support for the Vancouver Police during the 2011 Stanley Cup riots.
Ken studied economics at the University of British Columbia, and graduated from the Executive Management Development Program at Simon Fraser University. He and his wife have lived in Surrey’s Fleetwood-Port Kells community for the past 15 years.
