Vida' View .....highlights of our meeting.

Peter told us about the four bikes at our Police Station.  We are going to help distribute them to children who need them at Moody Elementary.  Westwood Cycle will refurbish them.

Gary reminded that our dinner at Installation does not included the gratuity.  Remember to TIP!

Linda has tickets for the 50/50 draw.  Remind your friends that the pot is up to $30,000

Ribfest:  We are just 30 days out!  Have you filled out the volunteer form and arranged for the police security check?  You need a specific one (vulnerable populations) if you are working with children.  Don’t wait till the last minute!

July 9th:  We need EVERYBODY out for set-up, in addition to your volunteer hours during the Ribfest.

Isy tells us that Kids Camp Open House is that Sunday also.  Because of Ribfest, they will get us back early so we can make it to our volunteer shift.

Mayor Mike Clay congratulated us on what good work we are doing with the SFPP

Allison told us they won the $50,000 contest, due in large part to the last minute push by Rotarians.  Good job everyone!  This will enable them to continue their independent directed studies work with students in Kenya.

Guest Speaker:  New Rotarian Lois Sharpe.

Lois was born in Vancouver, and grew up in Maple Ridge.  Her family involvement with their church started her interest in volunteering.  Then, a relative sent a bag of fabric scraps which started her passion for sewing.

Lois was yhe first woman working as a wholesale food & drug buyer, and became a Special Projects Manager.

Due to raising her three daughters, her dream of working in fashion design was stalled.  However, she finally finished a double diploma in the field.

Important factors in Lois’ life:

The need to always be learning.

        The importance of family

        A passion for travel

Lois returned to Coquitlam, and is now working at Port Moody Art Center.

Welcome to Rotary, Lois!
