.....This is one of the positive programs that we support at the Rotary Club of Port Moody, where Helping Hands Are Building A Better World.
Two of 52. As I read RI President's message in this month's Rotarian magazine he tells us of when he was a Rotary Scholar in South Africa in 1960. He had spoken of this at the Montréal convention and leaving the USA by freighter from New Orleans. That was the year Prime Minister Harold Macmillan of Great Britain made his Wind of Change speech in Cape Town. RI President Ray Klinginsmith talks about innovation and change we are experiencing in Rotary International. Looking at our "programs and practices to see if they can be improved, even as we steadfastly maintain our core values". That is what we are going to do in our club when we do the Visioning process. We have schedule the event for the evening of September 22nd. I am looking for a suitable location for us. Carol Tichelman from Chilliwack and past District 5050 Trainer has assembled a team of Rotarians from our District to facilitate the process with us. Other clubs I have spoken to about this, who have participated in this process, have all said it is a valuable resource to have in a club. We are looking for 70% or more of the club to attend so we may have a good representation of the membership's views on where we are and where we want to go as a club in future years. We will meet at around 5pm and have a buffet, soup, sandwich and dessert working supper. As I get more information I will distribute it to the members of the club. Your board met at my home for a BBQ and meeting where we looked at where we are budget wise and have made a commitment to look at all new requests for support through the vetting process of the Ways and Means committee. We have also made a commitment to posting out by email the minutes of the board to all members so all our members will know what is being done by our club. Past President Ron Baker is responsible for our connection with RI Foundation. He is going to look at ways we can connect with our programs including: Every Member, Every Year, and Polio Plus. Some contributions to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) can come back to us in terms of grants for a variety of projects. Ron is getting up to speed and the ins and outs of these programs. On Saturday, Ann Hulbert, President Elect John Dalton and his daughter Lauren, and myself went up to Camp Jubilee for Kids Camp. We along with Rotary Clubs from Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Mission and Burnaby sponsored children to attend this positive camp experience for pre teens and early teens. We watched them engage in a major water fight, paddle in canoes in Indian Arm and experience positive reinforcement from peers and counselors many may never normally have. This is one of the positive programs that we support at the Rotary Club of Port Moody, where Helping Hands Are Building A Better World.
