Yes the BUZZ is still in the air !!!! What a great Club we have !!!  So nice to be able to give the Rotaract Club a cheque for all the hard work they did at our First Annual Port Moody RibFest ....
They certainly deserved it for shucking and cooking all that corn.

We had some great guests once again....
Dyanne Wayland, Meghan Lahti, Simin Rahmany, Rotaractors Kimberly and Amber & Suzanna Walden, Donna and Andrea from New View Society.

New View Society gave us a wonderful presentation on their 'home' in the Tri-Cities.  This is who and what they are: [copied from website]

New View Society was established in August 1973 to cope with the de-institutionalization of patients from Riverview Psychiatric Hospital. Many previous patients were now living in the community, and needed social, recreational and work programs to assist them with community integration. New View Society was formed to meet that need.

The Society received its initial funding through a Local Initiative Program Grant from the federal government, Canada Works grants and United Way. The clubhouse services were started and grew over the next 40 years.

In 1983, the Society expanded with the purchase of two houses, which provided semi-independent living for 10 individuals.

In 1984, the Society moved into premises at 2050 Mary Hill Road.

In 1990, the Society built Maplewood Manor, an apartment building with 20 independent units. The housing services at New View expanded to provide housing supports to 200 individuals.

In the late 1990's, "The Place" drop-in centre was opened on Elgin Avenue in the commercial section of Port Coquitlam. The drop-in provided recreational and social supports for individuals living with a mental illness in the community. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding and capacity, 'The Place' drop-in program has been discontinued.

In 2003, two additional houses were bought. In total, the four houses owned by New View provide homes for 20 individuals.

In 2006, the main building on Mary Hill Road no longer met fire code regulations. An ambitious plan was made to create a new building in it's place, holding both a Community Mental Wellness Center, and a residential housing unit for 10 individuals.

In 2008 both the capital campaign and the building's construction were started, and the construction of the new building, was completed in 2011.

Today the Community Mental Wellness Center is fully functioning, and has numerous programs on the go dedicated to helping New View Society's members and educating the public. Occasionally these vocational and educational programs have been conducted in partnership with organizations such as Douglas College.

We are so lucky to have them in our Community.
