I would like to extend a sincere thank you to you and the rest of the group for welcoming me with open arms and the best coffee yesterday morning!

Dear Port Moody Rotary,

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to you and the rest of the group for welcoming me with open arms and the best coffee yesterday morning!  I must say that I have never met a group quite like the Port Moody Rotary and felt like I was amongst an incredibly dynamic group.  I hope that everyone took away some new information on the BC Cancer Foundation and the BC Cancer Agency and left feeling like they wanted more.  Like I mentioned at the presentation, I am always happy to arrange for one of our oncologists join me to talk about a topic that is of particular interest to the group.  Or, perhaps a tour of our research centre would be more interesting? (always fascinating!).  Please let me know if this is of interest to the group and I can arrange something for the upcoming months.  Our tours of the Vancouver Research Centre run ever 3 rd Tuesday of the month, but our tours of the Fraser Valley Centre can be arranged for any evening that suits your group.

Please let me know if there is a flavor to continue to hear more about the BC Cancer Foundation and the good work that is being done at the BC Cancer Agency.

I look forward to hearing from you Darrell!

Warm regards,

Andrea

Another letter with answers from the questions at the meeting

I wanted to make sure that I adequately followed up with everyone's questions from the other morning.  I know there was a question from a gentleman (I didn’t get his name unfortunately) around pharmaceutical companies and how much cancer research they do and how much funding is given to the Agency from the Pharma companies.  There was also a question about how much of the foundations revenues go to pay BC Cancer Agency Staff.  I am happy to answer all of those questions.

The Cancer Agency does not receive any direct funding from the big pharmaceutical companies.  That is the day to day operating budgets are completely funded by the province.  Staff at the BC Cancer Agency are paid by the government.  The Ministry of Health budget takes care of these wages.

Cancer Research is an integral part of what the agency does.  There are clinical trials, and some but not all sponsored by pharmaceutical companies.

I hope I've answered those questions a bit better!

Please don’t hesitate to send me any more questions that arise.

Andrea
