Ministry of Health mandated new programs to be created to respond to the ongoing Opioid Crisis

OERC (Overdose Emergency Response Centre)

CAT (Community Action Team) – Created by OERC

Stats

  • 2511 deaths in BC due to opioids in 2023, approx. 7.2 deaths per day
  • Ambulance services gets over 42,000 calls a year for overdoses, max one day there were 221 calls.

TriCity CAT – Formed in 2017

  • Involved in the community to create awareness.
  1. Interactive Education – created to suit different ages.
  2. What is Stigma (negative set of beliefs)
      1. Works to address this, putting people First.
      2. Providing Hope
  3. Create Visuals, such as purple flags for death planted around town.
  4. Connecting different resources, like Share, Naloxhome, etc

They want to do good by participating, facilitating, attending, hosting, and creating (all positive actions)
