AND THE PAUL HARRIS GOES TO:
DON & SHARON DIXON
Don and Sharon Dixon have been active Port Moody community supporters for over 40 years. Their involvement in the community has been as business owners, employers, volunteers and community advocates.
Don and Sharon's volunteerism began in Port Moody's Pleasantside area with Sharon volunteering at the local elementary school. Her range of involvement was diverse ÃÆ'Ã┼'Ã'Ã'¢?" everything from cupcakes to classroom assistance. This was but a start to their contribution to their community.
For many years Don and Sharon were proud owners of Adanac Lumber located at the key intersection of Ioco Road and Barnet Highway/St. Johns in Port Moody. Adanac Lumber (Irly Bird) was well known as the "original hardware store" with regular customers regaling staff with the stories of the store supplying the materials for many of the homes built over decades in Port Moody. Many Tri-City youths worked their way through high school and post secondary at Adanac. Adanac also provided financial support to many worthwhile causes including the Variety Club through the donations raised (and matched) selling firewood and continue to do so. Eventually this prime property was sold for future development and Adanac Lumber in Port Moody was on the way out. Don and Sharon found a rather unique way to give back to their community during this transition. Net proceeds from the last days of Adanac's closeout were earmarked for Crossroads Hospice Society and at the end of the day Crossroads received a very generous donation of $10000ÃÆ'Ã┼'Ã'Ã'¢?ÃÆ''Ã'Ã'¦ a great addition to Don and Sharon's lasting legacy.
The B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation benefited with Sharon as a team leader for many years. She was one of the founding members and President of the Inlet Figure Skating Club. As well, both Don and Sharon have been involved with various City of Port Moody committees. They have supported Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation and Crossroads Hospice Society. At present they are both supporting Crossroads Hospice Labyrinth Healing Garden project and Treasures of Christmas major fundraising gala both financially and personally. Sharon is a very active member of the Treasures of Christmas Committee and Don was quick to offer his support to the Crossroads Hospice's Labyrinth Healing Garden which is strategically positioned directly between Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice and Port Moody City Hall in Pioneer Memorial Park.
For the past ten years Don and Sharon have been very involved with St. Clare of Assisi parish community and at present fundraising and building of the new church.

BEVERLEY & DICK THOMAS
Beverley Thomas became a member of POCOMO Meals on Wheels in 1993 when she volunteered to be a driver, delivering a hot mid day meal and social contact at lunch time to the seniors in the Tri Cities area who are unable to shop and cook meals for themselves. She was soon elected Treasurer when Beverley let slip that she had book keeping skills and has been on the Board of Directors ever since. Performing the tasks of the Treasurer with diligence and still continuing to deliver meals and serve on committees to ensure best possible service for our clients. In 1996 her husband Dick retired and he too was soon involved with Meals on Wheels delivering meals to clients and also performing the task of Collector ÃÆ'Ã┼'Ã'Ã'¢?" picking up payment from clients, for meals they had received. When other drivers became ill, were on holiday or couldn't drive due to the weather, Dick and Beverley could be relied upon to take extra routes to ensure meals were delivered. We are fortunate to have them both as volunteers with our society. - Regular attended monthly board meeting - Attended committee meeting ongoing at Fraser Health re Program - When poor weather exists Richard contacts all route drivers to ensure they can deliver meals. If not Richard jumps in and helps - Helps many seniors enjoy fellowship and companionship when Bev & Richard show up with meals

EAGLE RIDGE HOSPITAL AUXILIARY- Harley Haynes, president of the Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary
For over 30 years the dedicated members of the Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary have worked together enhancing the care and services provided at Port Moody's hospital. The Auxiliary predates the opening of the hospital and many of the initial members were also active in the campaign to found the hospital. Since then, hundreds of individuals have given thousands of hours raising many hundreds of thousands of dollars. Since 1994 alone, the Auxiliary has donated more than $600,000.00 the Hospital Foundation. Auxiliary members have put "service above self" at many teas, sales, community concerts, special events, and of course, in the Hospital's Gift Shop. Their efforts are never about themselves but are always about the comfort, well being and health of the Hospital's patients and the Manor's residents.
