Kevin Ramsay is Port Moody’s new city manager, a position he has held for the last 5 months. He was our guest speaker at last Wednesdays meeting.

Kevin has worked at 19 different jobs throughout his working career (only 2 of which he applied for) expanding his knowledge in a variety of fields. His most recent position before coming to Port Moody was in Squamish where he was also city manager. What he is finding out is that people who live here in Port Moody do so because they love the city and all it’s assets.  Port Moody has a very convenient, and condensed civic center, which he referred to as “our campus.”  The library, city hall, recreation center, curling and hockey rinks, playing fields and more are all within walking distance of each other.

He finds his job of being the liaison between staff and council both challenging and rewarding. He described Port Moody council is the best he has ever worked with.  The new community plan for the future of Port Moody is now half way to completion. Transportation issues are on the forefront with the Evergreen Line bringing social and development changes and 2 new transit stations. City staff are working close with developers to come up with a strategic plan for density around these two stations.  Right now the challenges revolve around municipal services.

The core infrastructure, such as sewers and water mains that increase efficiencies will be priorities. Once these services are running efficiently, then they can look into expanding our Library and Arts Center and other asset replacements. Ensuring that growth in Port Moody is sustainable and in the cities best interests will be Kevin’s focus these next few years.

We thank Kevin for taking the time out of a busy schedule to help keep Rotary up to date
