.......After ‘trying’ to explain how RYLA changed his life he said to sum it up
 “RYLA MAKES A DIFFERENCE’

ImageRotary meeting:  July 11th, 2012

Excitement in the air once again at the club.  Rylarians arriving, Don & Patty with their RYLA shirts and Patty wearing her ‘warm fuzzies’.  Krista was a guest again, and we just might have to talk her into joining our Club, and Zoe Royer attended her 3rd meeting.  It was great to see Tom Williams back, new ‘hip’ and all.  You look great Tom !!

President Al is acknowledging members in the Club this year and today he recognized Patty for her work at District level with RYLA and Isy for her International work, but this week, front and center with Kids Camp.  All the kids set off for camp on Saturday and this couldn’t have been a more perfect week weather wise.  On Sunday a group of Rotarians went up to the camp and word has it that Ally wanted to stay.

Wednesday night is the going away party at the Burnham’s for Henriette, our exchange student.  It is so hard to believe that she has been here for one year already.  We share our exchange students with the Coquitlam Sunrise Club and if you are interested in hosting a student, please contact Nick.  You will find that hosting a student not only changes the lives of the exchange student forever, it will change YOUR family forever.  Such a wonderful experience !!!

Friday this week we will be delivering the ‘wish list’ for Innervisions.  Volunteers were put in 2 shopping teams and off we went to buy some of the items that these recovery homes needed.  Will be great to see how happy they are to receive them.

RYLA - means Rotary Youth Leadership Award and the presentation today was amazing.  3 young people came to give us their thoughts and experiences at the session this year.

Alaysia is Joye’s daughter and what a wonderful young woman she is !!!  Tall, beautiful, intelligent and not at all afraid to tell us she was a ‘little’ taken back when she arrived and the first thing that happened was this stranger met her and hugged her....She went only knowing that her Mom said Patty thought it would be a good weekend for her to attend and that she knew it would ‘look’ good on her resume’.  Such a confident young woman stood in front of us with the biggest smile and explained just what happened that weekend.

Romeo also knew going to RYLA would be good for his resume, but he had no idea how RYLA could change a life in 3 short days.  After ‘trying’ to explain how RYLA changed his life he said to sum it up “RYLA MAKES A DIFFERENCE’

Megan our past outgoing exchange student, then told us about being a facilitator. Meg went to RYLA 3 years ago, and has come back as a facilitator.  Megan is now a nursing student and will be working at Eagle Ridge Hospital, and has taken what she has learned from RYLA into her life as well.  As a facilitator Meg said ‘where else can you be in a room with 100 people who are shining and glowing’

Our Club is planning on sending 3 people to RYLA next year.  If you know of anyone who is between 18-25 please give their name and profile to Nick.  If you are interested in helping with RYLA, please call Patty.

Trudy’s ticket was drawn BUT she did not draw the ACE.

Gary we miss you at Rotary, but we are thinking of you all the time.
