Lots of guests...yeah!!  We welcomed: Our guest speaker Michelle, Jeannie T, Beate, Krista B, Jason J. and Justin, our new inbound exchange student..just in from Australia! Also, a welcome back to Hawaii Al, our wonderful President, flying in late Tuesday night and still showing up to tend to his Presidential duties at the crack of dawn!

A few announcements:

Cindy and Peter C are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new grandson at any moment..congratulations to parents Martin and Rachel.

Speaking of Peter....hockey pool cutoff was January 24.

A reminder to get your cheques in to President Al for "Eat Your Heart Out"...6 pm on Feb 18th.  Keith confirms we will have press coverage of our big cheque presentation about 6:15/6:30 that night.

Keith also hopes to have 3 guests out from the new local TriCities radio station in the near future.

Rotary Leadership Institute ..Alan S advises he attended Part 2 last Saturday...Part 3 will be in Canada on March 9.

Vida has two tickets for dinner (Pasta Polo) and the Wearable Arts show with back stage tour on Feb 16th.  We will auction them off at next Club meeting ..what a great Valentine's gift!!

Isy advises our matching grant applications are going very well..great job Isy!!

YAIL..Patty advises last weekend's Youth Adventures in Leadership was a great success. TYLA registration is now open and we are hoping to send 15 Rotoractors from the TriCities.

Sgt at Arms....Nick  is travelling to the far north again..this time for a Robbie Burns dinner.
Gary is now managaing around the meeting room on just one crutch..way to go Gary!!
Darrell is celebrating 25 years with Coast Mental Health.

SPEAKER'S CORNER

Michelle Tindall, Program Manager, Training Innovations

on the 6th floor of the highrise at Suterbrook is an office dedicated to helping Port Moody residents find employment and Michelle was our speaker today, telling all about the vaarious programs and services offered.  Training Innovations is a private company that has contracted with the BC Ministry of Social Development to delivers a wide range of servides, using both federal funding and provincial fudning through Jobs BC.

They also work in partnership with a number of other community agencies including Douglas College, Success, Immigrant Services Society and Open Door Society. Clients will be offered assessments of the needs nad may be invovled in individual or group services.  Michelle notes the trends are up for numbers of clients in their 40s, 50s and 60s...as well as youth.  Also increased needs for people with multiple barriers (mental health or substance abuse histories) and new Canadian populations.

Training Innovations also offers practical assistnace like access to computers for making resumes.

For employers..they can offer recruitment through job postings, placements, coaching and some funding for skills upgrading.
