She wanted to do something different, to see the world from a different point of view, improve her English, and to learn independence........

ImageOur Guest Speaker this week was our own Rotary Exchange Student, Henriette Holm.  Henriette comes to us from Denmark, and she shared pictures of her country and town.  Denmark is mostly flat, with acres of mustard fields.  Its highest point is only 172 metres.  Denmark’s flag, a white cross on red ground, is one of the oldest flags in the world.  We saw pictures of Copenhagen:  royal palaces, statue of  The Little Mermaid, from the story by Hans Christian Andersen, thousands of bicycles, and delicious-looking open faced sandwiches.

Henriettes’ town is Nykabing Falster.  We saw photos of her family, friends,  and home.  Both of her parents work in the sugar beet industry; there is a big plant in the town.

When asked what led her to apply to be an Exhange Student, Henriette said she was familiar with Rotary as her stepfather is a Rotarian.  She wanted to do something different, to see the world from a different point of view, improve her English, and to learn independence.  It is working on all counts!
