The Tri-Cities rotary club hosted the Rotary Generous Hearts Food Drive this past weekend to stock local food bank shelves.

Thanks to our very own Ron Baker for leading the charge on this great event.

All food was donated to Share Family & Community Services, which helps to feed 350 Tri-Cities families each week. From 2010 to 2011, 8,634 Tri-Cities residents received food from the food bank — including more than 4,000 children.

The Rotary Generous Hearts Food Drive helps to ensure that these families can eat nutritious food at every meal. The items most needed are peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned meat and rice.

Between noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2, Rotary club members donated their time at the following grocery stores:

- Thrifty Foods — Austin Station - 2662 Austin Ave., Coquitlam

- Thrifty Foods – Sutter Brook - 170 Brew St., Port Moody

- Save on Foods – Pine Tree Village - 2991 Lougheed Hwy., Coquitlam

- Save on Foods – 2385 Ottawa St., Port Coquitlam

- IGA Market Place – 1410 Parkway Blvd., Coquitlam

- IGA Market Place – 221 Ioco Rd., Port Moody

Many thanks for all the club members that helped out this past weekend!
