Our Guest speaker today was Diane Williams. (DAYS FOR GIRLS)

Diane and her husband live in Coquitlam, she has lived there since she was 4 years old.

Together they have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.

Diane’s work history is in Finances. Her current passion is the work she does with “DAYS FOR GIRLS” providing personal hygiene kits for girls in developing nations.  By doing so , the girls avoid infection, shame, exploitation, early marriage and even trafficking.

Days for girls was founded 4 years ago by a lady in Washington, after she went to Africa and found that girls when they got their menstrual cycle they were sent home from school  for 3 to 5 days, as they had no supplies for menstrual days.  So Days for Girls was started so they now put together kits of panties, reusable pads and washcloths. They have teams of ladies that go over and train the girls how to use these kits, and are also trained about hygiene and the cycle of life.

So many girls are raped during their menstrual cycle, even by Chief’s. They are sent all around the world. The group for Days of Girls like to work with other organizations to distribute the kits. They also need help to make the kits.

They hope to change the world one girl at a time.

Their request is to get fabric-cotton or flannel, trims, appliques to decorate the bags. Please share this request with any sewers or quilters you may know. Contact Vida Peterson atvida94928@yahoo.com
