ROTARY CLUB OF PORT MOODY

MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING  
January 16th

1.0              Call to order: 7:08 am

1.1              Attendance:  Al Stjernegaard, Isabelle Beane, Jon Dominy, Alan Schmelzel , John Dalton, Farah Syed, Trudy Gallant, Ron Baker, Nick Stebbing,  late Steve Witiuk

1.2              Regrets:

-          Adopted as circulated

2.0               Minutes : minutes from previous meeting approved as circulated – Isabella Beane second Jon Dominy  - approved

3.0              Reports:

3.1              President: John Dalton- cheque to be issued to Innervisions for $2,000 for Hannah House.  Also a plaque will be installed at Hannah House listing our club, Sunrise and Maple Ridge.   Do we want to host a Friendship Exchange from Germany May/June this year?  We will put our club name forward and see what dates are available.

Bylaw amendment – The membership dues shall be $225 per annum due on the 1st day of July with the understanding that a portion of each payment shall be applied to each member's subscription to the RI official magazine and a portion to pay for a ticket for that member for the annual installation event.   Moved by Steve and seconded by Ron - approved

3.2              President-elect: Al Stjernegaard

        - Fund Raising

Search for the Perfect Pint set for May 24th at City hall, Goal is to raise 23K

            Pub night on Feb 28th, Goal to raise 1K+, organized by Naomi

- I propose that we publish the board minutes in the Bulletin to improve club communication

- New code of accounts for GL will be setup for next year, Steve W to help out

3.5              Rotary Club of Port Moody Foundation:  

Minutes for AGM have been circulated – Annual reports have been submitted

4.0               Committee Reports:

4.1               Club Service: Trudy Gallant – Need to order some Rotary Shirts – we give out a shirt to new members – cost is approx. $45.00 each.  Guess who is coming to dinner may happen in March.  Golden Spikes have always come from Gatean – new contact at the city will be Ron Higo

4.2              Community Service: Cleone Todgham – Nick Stebbing meeting with the Chief re the junior police camp.

4.3              International Service: Isabella Beane – Container from August has arrived and goods have been distributed.  Next container will be loaded at the end of January.  Grahamstown Rotary Club want to move up the date for donation to St Mary’s to this year rather than next year.  Isabella suggests we wait until next year – then we can have access to additional matching grants.  

4.4              Membership: Jon Dominy

Gray has rejoined the club.  The membership meeting will look at past members to see if we have any potential candidates.

Motion – Jon moved that we accept Joy Mcpherson as a new member subject to approval of the membership committee. Seconded by Steve. Approved.

4.5              Youth: Nick Stebbing – still looking for a host family for April – June for Henrietta.   We need host families for next year.  Nick is trying to set up a meeting to get a Rotaract club started.

4.6              Public Relations: John Dalton

4.7              Vocational Service: Steve Witiuk – Dictionaries are in Abbotsford – Poco and Sunrise clubs think it is too late in the year to distribute.   Steve will have a meeting with the other clubs next week to finalize a plan for distribution

4.8              Rotary Foundation: Nick Stebbing

6.1 .  William Wilson will make a $1,000 donation to Rotary Club of Port Moody foundation – he will put the donation on his Visa card – the donation will be put into the club’s general account – then transferred to the Foundation account.

6.2         June 14th is the night of the Installation dinner
