 Rotary Meeting June 13 2018

This was a more casual meeting as we did not have a scheduled guest speaker coming to talk to us. The meeting was given over to providing an update on where we are at the committee level for the various areas of RIBFEST planning we did not cover off in our May meeting on our biggest fundraiser.

BIRTHDAYS: Kathy Stjernegaard and Nadine Elder

Club Anniversary:  Alan K. celebrates his 1st year anniversary this week.

REPORTS:

  1. Shred-a-Thon was a great success—Almost record amount in 4 hours work. 21 of us volunteered during the 4 hours. We experienced all kinds of weather—rain, wind, hail, sun. Thanks to Peter for going to the Lockup to get our tent when it looked like rain was on the way. Thanks to Linda for organizing
  2. While some of us were shredding Dan Gallant was working at the Rotary World Help warehouse loading the 384th trailer we’ve sent overseas and they didn’t experience any of the weather our shredders got, just sunshine. This 1 was going to the Ukraine.
  3. Rotary International Conference in Toronto this year is being attended by Dan G. his wife Marian and Paul Mitchell-Banks. Hope you guys have a great time!
  4. Saturday, June 23 is the Port Moody Community Fair an opportunity to find out about events in our City, Clubs, volunteer opportunities, City services, etc. We will be working in a tent explaining all the good we do, asking for RIBFEST volunteers, selling 50/50 tickets, etc. Come 1 come all.
  5. Saturday, June 30th (as part of Golden Spike Days) PCT will be hosting visitors at their Terminal to see the new expanded facilities and answer questions. They have invited us to bring a tent and talk to their visitors about all the work Rotary does in the community, ask for volunteers for RIBFEST, sell 50/50 tickets etc. Thanks to Ann, Linda, Gayle and Bill (and I think Ian too) for signing up.
  6. July 8th our Rotary day at the Kid’s Camp. Sign up at an upcoming meeting.
  7. July 20-22 Something called RIBFEST
  8. Summer Sunday’s  concerts in the Park start July 8th.

Meeting was about RibFest and where we stand 5 weeks out.

We are about 1/3-1/2 of the way to the volunteers we need. We will need a real push in the next month to fill in our volunteer roster. Linda is planning to have a prize draw each day for our volunteers—hopefully we can put together 15-20 gift baskets with donations from the community that will have a value of 50-75$ per basket so we can draw for 5+ each day.

VIP area will be sponsored by Lexus. There will be 100 plus seats available for 4 hours at a time—1 seating on Friday afternoon, and 2 seating’s each on Saturday and Sunday. There will be service to the table for food and drinks plus they will be closer to the music and not under the big top tent for the main beer tent. If we can sell out the VIP area for all 5 seatings it will be extra $ to the bottom line to help our Community.  Tickets are available on line, and will include 1 free drink and a $10.00 credit for their food order.

Brian Kenny stopped by from the Inlet Dragon Boat Festival to present us with a cheque for helping them with the Beer Garden.  A very nice surprise.

Summer is here and the HEAT is on !!!!  It seems that is all I ever talk about these days.  RIBFEST Volunteers.....
