I remembered the work involved in bringing up children
At the October 31st meeting I took on the random act of kindness for the club. We gathered $38 in collection. The following day I flew to Toronto for a meeting and on my return on Friday evening I was seated across aisle from two seats occupied by a couple and their 15 month old son. As I had two empty seats beside me I suggested they might want to swap seats as they would have a seat for their son. During the trip I remembered the work involved in bringing up children and how sometimes they can be quite harried when they are small. So I decided to give random coffee drinks to parents. I went down to Starbucks on Saturday morning to buy coffee cards to give away. I made up business cards to attach, with an explanation of what I was doing on behalf of the club. As I stood in line there was a father and two small inquisitive children. He ordered them hot chocolate and a pastry and a coffee for himself. As he was about to pay I introduced myself as a member of Port Moody Rotary and offered to pay his bill $8.11 as an act of kindness. He was somewhat taken aback initially but accepted and explained to his children I had given him an act of kindness. I then purchased six $5 gift cards to give away. Over the next couple of days while visiting IGA I found parents with small children and gave them the coffee cards. I also saw two cadets distributing poppies in the cold and gave them one for hot chocolate after their shift. This was a most rewarding fun experience. Nick
