It appears that through Rotary contacts good things may and do happen!
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE It is really a small world that we live in. I had the occasion last week to go to British Columbia's Institute of Technology, in Burnaby.(BCIT). I went specifically to visit the Sheet Metal Department to promote my Company in the hope of attracting those apprentices who have already committed to be coming a trades person in the Sheet Metal field to apply for employment with us. As I was walking out of the their shop, I noticed several pictures of graduating classes displaying proud apprentices and their instructors. I suddenly realized that I knew one of the instructors, Eric, who is the husband of Brenda Southam, the past President of the Rotary Club of Coquitlam! When I talked with him later that day, he also was genuinely surprised that we both shared a common background and are both committed Rotarians. It appears that through Rotary contacts good things may and do happen! This experience only confirms to me what an amazing organization Rotary is. It gives us the ability to share our thoughts, visions and vocations with people throughout this World. ROTARY SHARES! In last weeks message I mentioned that I had been invited the opening of the "Healing Gardens" at Eagle Ridge Hospital. I can report that it was a very pleasant memorial gathering and our own Ann Hulbert played a significant part in it. Three outstanding members of Port Moody's community lost their husbands in a very short time of each other; sadly Peter Hulbert was one of them. Having seen the original gardens and learnt of the plans to change them, they soon realize that the grant from PM Foundation was not going to be enough to complete this vision. They took on the project them selves; they organized the fund raising, brought on retired Landscape Architect Henry Sicking, who in turn brought on the contractor, Gordon Bedford Landscapers, City of Port Moody carpenters, Garden Club of Port Moody. Diane Watts was the fundraiser achieving $8,000.00. Our club was happy to contribute $1000.00 to this healing project, another demonstration of how our Club contributes to our Community.
