PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE The date is December 8th. 2007 and this message marks roughly the half waypoint of my Presidency. The last 6 months have flown by! I would like to give you and update on events we have accomplished and hope to accomplish for the balance of my term: I feel especially proud to being a member of the Rotary Club of Port Moody and especially to be the President of such an active, caring and involved Club. December is our busy month with the Manor decorating, the Manor Christmas Party, the Christmas Train and selling of Hot Chocolate, Innervisions Chilli Lunch and our Bike Project! We have done these events before and had support from our membership, but this year is different! We are experiencing exceptional support from our newer members which is so great to see and experience! If it is not our newest member Lilli Nasseri, 20 minutes after being inducted volunteering for the Junior Achievement Project. Nick Stebbing stepping up to take on the lights at the Manor, Brian Dunne and his son Liam working incredible hard and long at decorating the Manor. David Pedersson "running with the ball" on our dilemma of not having enough bikes for the students a "Seaview Elementary" and coming up with another 14 bikes! Sonia and Frank, (our next prospective member), hosting a delightful Christmas Party last night. Dale Shea for heading up the Literacy Project and suggesting the "Act of Kindness", which has become a weekly tradition. Steve Gable for acquiring a large quantity office supplies for South Africa. Sharron and Mike Warnock helping with the loading and Sharron stepping up in numerous ways in helping out in Club Service. Diane Skidmore and Ron Baker for volunteering to become directors on the Board next Year. Thank you to all our Members for your exceptional support! This is a brief list of our accomplishments; Search for the Perfect Pint; This fundraiser started off my term with a bang! With an amazing commitment from so many Rotarians, we surpassed our goals and raised over $18,000 on the night Thanks to Keith Vernon, Orland Lee and Steve Gable and many more. (About 26 Rotarians and family helped) Camp Jubliee; This was also well supported by several of our members, who gave up their time to chaperone and represent the Club. We had sponsored 36 children, who may not of ordinarily got the chance to experience such great team building and fun activities, if Rotary had not been there for them! This event is one that the Club will definitely repeat Thanks to Isabella Beane who has been a champion of this event several times Youth Exchange; Liza Horne, our outbound exchange students, left for Toulouse France, and the incoming exchange student, Isable Schwitter and Clara arrived from Switzerland and Mexico. Thanks to Darrell Burnham for his long time dedication to this project and Trudy Gallant, (our third term serving Secretary), is very prominent, as she has volunteered to be Isabel's counsellar. Literacy; Reading Program: This project, headed up but Dale Shae and Steve Witiuk and their committee have completed the presentation of the grade four dictionaries. Complete with the" The-Four-Way-Test" inserted into each dictionary. Community Service; This service, chaired by Jon Dominy, is of course one of the busiest at this festive time. As previously mention, is in the mist of completing many community events. Jon is still looking for a "hands-on project" that his committee can take on. Any suggestion is welcome! Some of the projects that we have achieved in the past, such as, the Bike Trials Park, Hannah House painting and garden project, Rocky Point Park trail clean-up. International Service; After our Club earlier had a "on-site breakfast" meeting at RI Warehouse it gave our members a better in-sight in the wonderful work the Rotarians accomplish in this holding facility. Being able to load and catalogue every contributed item that gets shipped overseas to deserving countries and organizations is a truly satisfying and great project! Thanks to Dan Gallant and Ann Hulbert for their long time commitment to this project. We have adopted two new traditions in our Club; "The Act of Kindness" and a yearly "Blood Donor Campaign" For the next 6 months and longer; For fill the Manor's Wish List, $16,000 is the budget! Change the remaining lights at the Manor to LED, (in the warmer months)! "Hands on Project" that the Club can get behind Loading of Containers for RI Camp Jubilee Keeping our name prominent in our Community In closing, I do not want to take anything away from the Members I have not mentioned, those that give their time to the Club in so many other ways?? ????..Thank you!
