Attending meetings is fine and necessary, but the true feeling of making a difference in our own community......
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE THE ROTARY CLUB OF PORT MOODY'S FOOD DRIVE, Sat. Oct. 27th. The generous citizens of Port Moody showed what a truly caring community we live in! With the kind permission of the management of IGA Marketplace Store on Ioco Road, Rotary set-up outside, to get the message out that the local food bank needed help! In the space of 4 hours the Rotarians collected over 60 plastic bags full of non-perishable food items, as well as filling to capacity the three (3) cardboard SHARE BOXES! Not only did the Rotary Club of Port Moody collect approximately $700.00 worth of food, they also received cash donations for SHARE, to the tune of $406.00! $1,100.00 in total! Rotary's motto this year is; Rotary Shares, this was exemplified by the volunteer Rotarians that attended. "The Food Drive" was headed up by this years President, Peter L Cuthbert., helped by Trudy Gallant, Darrell Burnham, Orland Lee and Dan Gallant. INTERNATIONAL SERVICE; Dan Gallant is a tireless worker when it comes to organizing and caring about loading goods into RI trailers, destined for overseas. He wanted to make the loading process easier on all our, not so young backs! The Langley Rotary Club recognizes this need and cut a cheque for $750 so Dan could go out and get brand new pallet-jacks and trolleys! This should also make volunteering easier, we can't use the excuse; "I have got a bad back any more" !!?? "The Manor" Christmas Lights Project. Dan and I met at the "Manor" earlier this week to scope out the lights that our Club has installed over the years, in view of changing them to the LED type, thereby saving energy. Dan had earlier gone to see Past President of the Coquitlam Club, Paul, who runs the Coquitlam Canadian Tire Store. When Paul heard what our Club has done for the "Manor", he very generously donated 10 boxes, enough to replace the entire frontage of the building, about 300 feet of new lights! BUSY SEASON COMING UP FOR OUR CLUB MEMBERS This is the time of year our Club goes to work! We need volunteers to step up and help on the several Christmas Projects that we have championed over the Years. Personally speaking this is what I like about being a Rotarian. Attending meetings is fine and necessary, but the true feeling of making a difference in our own community comes when we work shoulder to shoulder, getting to know each other better and seeing the smiles on the seniors or youths faces means allot to me and hopefully it will to you too.
