I read in a recent "Rotarian" magazine, that many new Rotary members believed that the "Service Above Self" motto is what initiated their commitment to join a Rotary Club.
Installation Night - Thursday @ St. Street Grill Linda tells us that we will have a great turnout for the instillation night this coming Thursday. Dress is casual and you know there will be a huge amount of fun. Come here Ron talk about his goals for his year, and see the new executive be installed for Ron's year. A great deal of work has gone into the installation night, and much thanks needs to go to the committee for their hard work. Service Above Self: I read in a recent "Rotarian" magazine, that many new Rotary members believed that the "Service Above Self" motto is what initiated their commitment to join a Rotary Club. Each of the new members interviewed believed in the spirit of Giving to other in need, both in their own community, and in the international scope. We have completed a significant number of projects in 2008-2009 which exemplifies the "Service Above Self" theme. How many times have we heard form a member of our club that we need to have a food drive, send a container to help a need country, read to a senior, or give a bike to a needy child. We need to get out the WORD to our Port Moody community, and blow our horn to attract new members to Rotary in 2009-2010.I know there a many individuals, businessmen, non profit society directors who would want to join an organization like Rotary to enhance their lives. Keep a lookout for these individuals over the summers months, and invite them to come out to a breakfast meeting, Terry Fox Run 2009 - Sunday September 13th Eli and Keith will be chairing this years Terry Fox Run in Port Moody. In early August, you will start seeing posters placed in businesses, coffee shops, City venues, highlighting the details of the run. Our Rotary Club has been a sponsor of this event for the past 6 years, and have raised in excess of $72,000.00 to date to help this excellent cause. We will again be soliciting volunteers for registration, route monitoring, water, food details etc. Port Moody Rotary Club Foundation Audit We recently had an audit performed from the Provincial Government CRA on our club "Foundation Account." This was a routine audit and we passed with flying colors. While we received some general suggestions on some of the types of tax treatment on entries processed, the auditor was pleased with our overall handing of the account. Thanks to Gayle, Jon and Steve for their work in the handling of the account. President Keith
