President Ron's Message

July 15, 2009 President's Message Sitting at the keyboard, looking for inspiration, determined to expound great thoughts. Alas nothing occurs to wow you, Linda's constant readers. But I am inspired when I think about the weekend past. On Saturday we had a great event. An event oozing the fellowship and community spirit of our club. Dubbed Christmas In July, the Share Society's annual summer food gathering campaign gave us an opportunity to show our stuff, and Peter Cuthbert grabbed the opportunity with his usual gusto. At the end of the day I don't know exactly how many of us showed up to help. I think there were eight or nine of us put in two or three hour shifts through the course of the day at the entrance to Thrifty Foods Store in the Suter Brook development in Port Moody. (Thanks Jerry Jaggers) We accosted their patrons imploring them to buy food, put it in the bags we were handing out and turning it in to us on their way out…….. ………..AND THEY DID IT! Peter will give us the details of this terrific day in his report on Wednesday. For me it suffices to say we had fun, we did a good thing and we again showed ourselves and our town that the Rotary Club of Port Moody IS "the spirit of community in our community" Thanks for listening Ron
