Governor Denis Boyd & Maureen

Denis and Maureen have four children: Carolyn
(Graeme), Geoffrey (Jolene), Christopher and Joan-
na. Their grandchildren, Ciaran and Liam, (born four
years apart on the same day) are a source of great joy
as will be the arrival of a third grandchild in December.
Sunday dinners bring family together and visiting friends are absorbed into the noise and laughter and chaos.

Denis lived most of his early days in Cranbrook, BC. His full and part time stints on the evening and morning shows for the “Voice of the Canadian Rockies” CKEK in Cranbrook nurtured his love for music; however, he soon came to real- ize that radio wasn’t his career of choice. As a result, Denis headed off to the University of BC in Vancouver to see if the world of Psychology was a good fit.

Denis completed two degrees at UBC and began counseling in 1976. After six years working for an agency, he decided to start his own psychology practice in Coquitlam. Denis Boyd and Associates celebrated its 31th anniversary in April of 2013. Seventeen therapists now work with Denis, including one of his sons and one of his daughters. In his counseling and teaching, Denis focuses on marriage, grief and stress. (Not related of course!) . He is also the author of: “Marriage Can Be Great.....no really!”

The late Brian Bardal asked Denis to six different meetings over several years before he convinced him to join the Rotary Club of Coquitlam. Although it had taken Denis quite a few free meals to figure out that he needed to join Rotary, once he did, he embraced it wholeheartedly and quickly became a Rotarian in deed as well as name. Denis served his club as membership chair, club service chair and president. During Maureen’s presidential year, Denis served as pro- gram chair as well as “Aide to the President.” Denis was awarded the Rotary Club of Coquitlam’s Brian Bardal Most Valuable Rotarian Award and RI’s Ave- nues of Service award. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

On the district level Denis has been part of the district training team and served as District Trainer, Family of Rotary chair, a member of the Visioning Team, and Assistant Governor for Area D. He was the original dean of District 5050’s Rota- ry Leadership Institute team. Denis attended the RI international conventions in Montreal and Portugal, and is looking forward to visiting Sidney in June 2014. Denis is grateful for the wonderful fellowship of Rotary and the opportunity to change lives through service.

Denis enjoys photography, walking, fine scotch/wine and time with his family in Tofino, BC.
