The Club has been on a very successful fundraising streak...Al S and Jason advise the Search looks like about $21,000 in profit and Linda advises the Shred a Thon
netted about $3197. We have made over $11,190 over our 4 years of shredding as well as cleared up about 36,116 pounds of unwanted paper. Great work!!  We are all set for June 6th, 2015..next year..to do it again!

Presentations:
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation to Tom Williams of both a badge signifying him as our Club's most recent "Honorary Member" as well as a Paul Harris.
Tom richly deserves these honours for all his support for both RWH and the Rotary Club of Port Moody:  sharing his company resources..trucks and warehouse space.  His last efforts on our behalf was working the security detail at the Search for the Perfect Pint.
We also heard more details about the fine work he and his family have done in supporting Family Caregivers through an endowment fund with the ALS society.  The Club made another presentation of a $250.00 cheque to further this work and we topped it off with a coin collection taken at the meetings in honour of all Tom's past penny collections. Tom repaid this last gesture by presenting Linda a fistful
of Canadian Tire money that we will use for the Chilli lunch at Inner Visions this coming Christmas.  What a great guy..Tom we are all better for knowing you and having your amazing support of our work.

Speaker's Corner:

Our guest speaker Barb Mancell is the Tricities Literacy Outreach Co-ordinator..a position she has held since 2011 retiring from her elementary school teaching position in SD 43.

Barb explained the funding of the program through by the Ministry of Education and subcontracted out to more than 100 communities through out BC.

The mission is to build partnerships locally through communication, collaboration, public awareness and access strategies. The local steering committee focuses on efforts to improve literacy in three main areas..adults, ESL and families.
The range of programs and services delivered are truly astonishing and so valuable to the health of our community..supporting so many people in so many venues...from children to seniors and new Canadians and those wanting to upgrade for employment.
Literacy is close to our hearts as Rotarians and we thank Barb for sharing her commitment and enthusiasm for this great work.
