Former member Gaetan Royer was our guest speaker.

Gaetan brought us exciting information on a new initiative he is currently working on with Fred Souffi in conjunction with Amnesty International, trying to bring a Human Rights Park to the Lower Mainland. It will be a place of commemoration and reflection in metro Vancouver.

The hope is it will be a walking park with fields, water vistas and walking trails. The plan is there will be permanent art installations throughout the venue that will encourage reflection and tell a story of abuses around the world and here at home.

A well designed park will lead visitors through a path/walkway with over 200 art pieces with plaques detailing the stories and representative pieces of art, statuary or other installations hopefully from artists local to the country or area.

Art work will be selected to tell the stories from around the world.

They currently are working with the Cities of Burnaby, Richmond and Vancouver to select a suitable venue. Closest to us as a possibility would be Barnet Marine Park which has highway access, fields, water views, mountain vistas, on the Trans Canada Trail. But they are also looking at Riverview /Colony Farms area.

It is a very exciting concept and will be a real attraction to bring visitors to the Lower Mainland area. Gaetan will keep us informed as the project moves ahead.
