This week’s quote from President Ian“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” Milton Berle

Our scheduled speaker today, Sarah Kronkhite, was unable to attend at the last minute so we had an “open mike” meeting.

Announcements:

Cleone and Patty are going to a meeting with the Port Moody Police to discuss ways of maximizing the Police Trailer we sponsored for them this Spring. They use it when they attend schools and major events in Port Moody to promote what they do and to interact with students and citizens. We want to co-ordinate at some school venues to discuss grants we do for the city, scholarships we provide, Youth programs (RYA, RYLA, etc.), Camp Jubilee.Discussed Paul’s idea for our Grant application just granted. Paul’s family is rooted in RYLA events through the various Rotary Club’s across the west. His Dad set up a camp in Washington State for RYLA. The plan is we will have a virtual RYLA using technology and personal attendance by guest speakers over 12 interactive sessions using the Socratic Method—“a form of cooperative, argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions” WIKIPEDIA. Preference will be given to PoMo students. It fits with our Club’s goals and Rotary’s plan
Monday the 22nd was our Board Meeting. Discussion on legacy project.

November 2nd Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner. Instructions to come to all who’ve signed up. Thanks for organizing again Peter. Peter gave us a reminder to be sure our cars are full of gas and we know how to use our GPS.

November 3rd Foundation events  in Bellingham—Seminar 10 am-3pm, drinks 5pm-6:30 and dinner 6:30 pm. Keynote speaker is Joan Toone a Polio survivor.

Next week speaker will be Lee Harman giving an update on where we are on Polio eradication.

Also our “Rotary Shop” will be open for business.

Claire gave an update on establishing a “before I die wall”. It would be a wall area where folks could write in chalk things they want to do before they die. It would be an inspirational area and we would look to mark it as “sponsored by Port Moody Rotary” project.
November 21st there is a RLI seminar scheduled for Aria 1—Rotary Learning Institute

Yolanda Broderick was attending as a guest again and wanted to give thanks to our Port Moody Rotary Club for our donation to the All Saints Catholic Women’s League to help them provide Thanksgiving Dinner to Homeless folks in the TriCities this year. It started in 2010 with 30 people attending and this year it was at 500 which is a sign of the times. Feeding this number of people is made possible with the volunteer help from a chef (from BC ferries) and his crew of cooks and sous chefs.
