International Meeting - Monday 30th September 2013

212 Newport Drive, Port Moody, - 5pm

In attendance: Isabella Beane, Dan Gallant, Linda Balzer, Gayle Carter, Vida Peterson, Ann Hulbert, Al StJernegaard

Isabella reported on the status of the container grant. 2nd container delivered and unloaded but the clubs in SA incurred charges. Third container on hold until customs information more forthcoming.

Andy Russell has requested our clubs assistance with a literacy programme to train teachers in East London. Awaiting more information from Andy before proceeding with this.

Vida reported on her Days for Girls project. She is currently covering the all the costs associated with this project and is looking for financial help to assist her with the costs of the project. She is trying to set up a Foundation which would not be associated with our club. In the meantime she is looking for approximately $3,000.00 to help cover the costs of materials required to manufacture the goods.

Linda suggested that she work with the Soroptomists, Vida advised that they are already assisting with the Vancouver Chapter for Days for Girls.

The committee suggested she make a presentation to the Board to request the funds.

Linda showed us photos of the family in Belize that she visited and built a new house, she showed the conditions they were living in and then a picture of the new house. Good work Linda.

Al updated us on his hopes to work with Rotary clubs in Ecuador during his year, he will work with a club there to make the necessary connection with a view to doing a project in that country during his term as International Chair.

Kitchen in St. Mary’s Community Centre project going well.

Dan advised Uganda, Phillipines containers coming up. RWH loaded their 300th container on Saturday.
