President Coreen opened our meeting with an amazing film of O'Canada.  It was beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Gary you were missed.

Cleone had a Community Service meeting to discuss upcoming projects by the Club.  It went well and lots of ideas were exchanged.  She has a powerpoint from the meeting that she can share with any of the members if you’d like.  Contact her directly.

Rotary Days of Service and “Dogoodery” – Al Stjernegaard tells us that there is some grant money available from the District for good projects, with a focus on interactivity amongst Rotary, Rotaract, Interact, and women’s issues in the community.  There will be a call for action in the near future.

Steve gave us an update on the Interact Club’s bottle drive.  Looking to have a drop off at Rocky Point Park - Monday March 14, 10-12.
The Interact clubs across BC, Alberta, and northern US are also having their first ever convention in Calgary.  More details to follow but we are looking to help host some members to attend.

Coreen and Mike B are moving to Chilliwack sometime in July.  Sadly, this will mean they will leave our club but will remain heavily involved until then!  We will need a new Treasurer… anyone interested please reach out to the club executive.

Jill Atkey was our guest, from the BC Non-Profit Housing Association.
Jill presented some interesting information to us on low income and affordable housing, the cost of housing and the cost of rentals, and how our government and local bodies need to react better to the needs for affordable housing.  www.rentalhousingindex.ca for example shows data on rentals in Canada going up considerably.  The issue of course is that higher and higher amounts of income are being spent towards housing and rent, resulting in many people being priced out of housing.  Her talk was informative into potential solutions and commentary on the various issues.

Vida & Cleone made Valentine box

A small get together at Cleone's to make Valentines for the seniors at Eagle Ridge Manor.  Aziz and his girls were there via zoom. A good time had by all xo

Foundation Moment
Words from a Past Rotary Foundation Global Grant Scholar
“During my time as a Rotary scholar, I learned to look at development differently. We often think of international aid in terms of poverty reduction, and we often see poverty reduction in terms of dollars spent and earned. The anthropology of development aims to analyze global aid in another way. We pay particular attention to how initiatives play out on the ground to determine just what local communities’ needs are and how those needs might be met sustainably and, eventually, autonomously….Rotarians understand that to have the most impact, we need to learn from other cultures. As global grant scholars, that’s what we aim to do – during our studies, and afterward.”  Levi Vonk, Global Grant Scholar and Fulbright fellow to Mexico
