We were privileged today to have one of our Charter Members Gene Vickers as our guest speaker.

“Getting Healthy Again”

Gene went from 246lbs to 174lbs

How to diet, exercise and a wee bit of inspiration:

It was July 15th , 2011 and Gene was getting ready to walk his daughter Brianna down the aisle  when she said to him “Don’t die on me Dad”

Then his 2nd inspiration was his other daughter’s dog Chloe when he took her for a walk and couldn’t keep up.

He then started walking, bike riding and going to the gym. He even made it around Bunzen Lake in under 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Inspiration #3 was his granddaughter Sarah when she was born.

Inspiration #4 was none other than our fellow Rotarian Gary Wiggins when he said to Gene “On one of your health kicks, how long will this last?”

Challenges Gene faced:

We’re giving up fast foods and eating healthy. No more onion rings and unhealthy fats.

Going to the gym even when he didn’t want to. There he had encouragement  from Keith.

Falling off his bike and ending up with some permanent scars.

Good Things

His Hips, Knees and Back are no longer hurting.

He feels he now does not need Hip Surgery that at one time he did.

Setting Goal’s has been great for him, and the people around have supported him all the way through.

Cross fit  training now every Sunday , an old man of 60 they call him Gramps…

Gene is now working at Dueck on Maine selling high end cars.

He is thinking of coming back to Rotary.
