"First ever Car-Free Day Port Moody has to go down as an unbelievable success... so great to see the community out on St Johns Street celebrating with our local businesses and having a great time. Young and old, great food, entertainment, activities and just general fun for everyone. Our amazing staff at the City did a great job and I had the amazing privilege of receiving hundreds of complements. "This is amazing, what a great idea" "This is the best event ever in Port Moody" "The organization was terrific, great job" "We should do this every (week, month, year)" "Why haven't we done this before"
"YOU MUST BE SO PROUD!!" - You bet I am !! Proud of our local businesses for REALLY stepping up and bringing an excitement and positive energy to the event that made it far better than we could have imagined.. over 100 of them !! Proud of our very own local talents like Julia Montgomery, Clavinova Nights, and Greg Drummond ! (among others, they were all amazing all day long) Proud of our Council for having the courage to try something new and support our community desire for more fun and free events for families ! Proud of our four local breweries working together as always to promote the City and bring visitors. Proud and grateful to our sponsors Jack FM, Global TV, Hard Rock Casino, Open Road Group, and Westwood Cycle - the support was amazing. And the title sponsors, Onni Group and Bold Development - giving back to the community and stepping up late in the process when we needed them, making this event possible.
So happy that despite the 20+ thousand visitors to Car Free Day, Summer Sundays still had another amazing day at Rocky Point, and the local eateries outside of St Johns also had a great day.
SOOOOO Proud of our great staff and volunteers that made this possible. They all worked a long , hot day in the sun, fueled by Panago pizza and their love of our community and the volunteer spirit was overflowing.. we simply cannot have amazing events without the volunteers and many of the City staff were also volunteering their Sunday to support the event !
But mostly just proud of the amazing community I am luck to be Mayor for...very humbling the residents responded in the most positive way, gathering to have a good time responsibly and safely and so great to see people making new friends and learning about businesses in our City. Businesses that are owned and operated by our friends and neighbours, our kids school mates. Businesses owned by our soccer, hockey, baseball, etc. coaches.
Anyone that says Port Moody has lost our small town character wasn't at car free day - proof once again that the people make the community and our people are the greatest anywhere !
