Clive introduced our guest speaker District Gov. Bill Robson, Bill was born in the North East of England and arrived in Canada in 1974.  He worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia before retiring.   He was the PP of Coverdale club but now calls Langley his Rotary home.   He travelled to Ethiopia in 2011 on a Polio mission  and led a GSE team to New Zealand in 2014.   He is a multi Paul Harris fellow.

He opened his talk with " What is a DG and what does he do?"     Answer:  He is like a head cheerleader.  His job is to liase between the Clubs and RI.  He noted the amount of work our "little" club does and noted that a club is not necessarily defined by size but by the quality of it's members and Port Moody has a lot of members who have stepped up to work on a District level.  He listed some of the members who have participated at a District Level.  Rotary Leadership Institute should be considered Rotary Learning Institute

Members should think about WHY they joined Rotary and WHY they stay with Rotary and spread the word.

Port Moody Club has contributed over 140,000.00 to RI Foundation since it's inception.

The WHO has declared Nigeria Polio free so essentially that means the African Continent is now Polio free leaving only Afghanistan and Pakistan the two remaining areas of the world but there have been no new cases in a month so if there are no new cases in the next few week it is possible that WHO will declare the world Polio Free, the incubation period is 6 weeks.   If, indeed, there are no new cases by mid November that could be Rotary's Gift to the World.

Our club has 16 PH Fellows, 8 Benefactors and 4 Bequest members.

Bill's conference is in Semiahmoo next year Thursday 28th April - through Sunday 1st May, Guest speakers include Suzanne Ray from Australia and Dean Rohrs.
