President Coreen opened the meeting and Gary led us in the singing of O'Canada

Terry read the invocation

President Coreen's thought for the week
Jeannie's photo made us all smile
Guest's this week were:
Past member and about to become a new member,  George Broderick

President of the Port Coquitlam Centennial Club - Carrie Belanger
Khayangawasike from Kenya
The container finally was released in Nairobi
Here is the list of contents
The most fun was to see the 'adults' play with the toys......One 36 year old said they had never had a toy in their life.  They were excited that they made noises and some even talked to them.  Amazing !!!!

Our newest Fundraiser - 'Go for Rotary'  is in the works.....
President Coreen has asked that you wear 'orange' to next week's meeting in respect for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

We are sending a container to Belize and would like your support.....
This is AG Al's message:
I mentioned that the Rotary World Help is sending another much needed medical container to Belize in October. This container is sponsored by the Rotary World Help (Thanks very much RWH).

Glen and I talked to Cisco of the Belize Rotary Club and asked what other items are on his wish/need list.
He came back right away and suggested school supplies and sporting equipment (soccer balls, basketballs, soccer shoes etc - used OK). They will be distributed to the poorer famlies and perhaps to kids of prisoners in the prison who are in need.

Terry suggested that we pool some money from the members instead of asking each member to go out and buy supplies.

If you are interested in supporting this please send your cash donation via Etransfer to our club. The email address is treasurer@portmoodyrotary.ca
The container has been delayed from Oct 2 to Oct 23rd. We will purchase the supplies in early Oct.
If we could get your donations this week that would be awesome.
Also if you have used  sporting equipment or a contact that has some please contact us.

Thanks in advance for your kind support

Assistant Governor  Area D (Maple Ridge, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Port Moody)

Peter has put up the 'small' Shred-a-Thon signs.  Well done !!!

It is with a heavy heart that our 'Mentor and good friend to Rotary', Ed Nadort has passed on.
Ed was a great mentor to our Rotary Club of Port Moody and an 'Honorary Member'.  He was a member of the Rotary Club of Coquitlam Sunrise and when Gene Vickers wanted to start up our club, Ed was 100% behind the idea.  Hecame to most of the first year meetings and encouraged us to continue with the good works of Rotary.
Thank you Ed, we love you and you will be missed by many.

This is what his daughter Lori wrote:

Today we said goodbye to my 92 year old dad, at peace with a life well-lived. Two kids, three grandkids, married nearly 65 years to mom. Born in The Netherlands, emigrated to Canada in 1953, he was a watchmaker, jeweller, member of MENSA, and could fix anything. Dad couldn’t abide small talk, bad grammar, or off-tempo ‘Happy Birthday’ (sung in harmony). Kept people at arm’s length, but showed his connection through actions – fertilizing my mom’s name into the lawn, designing and building me an A-frame playhouse and my brother a treehouse, and making gorgeous toys for Erin and Alex. He gave to the community, working extensively with Rotary (‘birthing’ several TriCities clubs), donating blood over 75 times, and problem solving solutions for the less-abled via Tetra Society. He mellowed as he aged, and as Vascular Dementia took some of his memory but gave him a wicked (and bawdy) sense of humour. Halfway to an orphan now. ❤https://www.burquitlamfuneralhome.ca/memorials/Edward-Nador/4729272

His obit has a funny story in it.  Ed had a great sense of humour.  xoxoxo

What is a Rotary Foundation Bequest Society Member?

Those who have made commitments for future gifts of $10,000 or more to The Rotary Foundation are invited to join the Bequest Society. Donors may elect to receive various benefits and recognition pieces commemorating their commitment at each new recognition level, including pins, crystals, named funds, and special seating at the Rotary International Convention. A bequest gift of at least $10,000 in your name to The Rotary Foundation creates a legacy of your generosity and compassion as you are helping many people live better lives around the world. Today there are over 18,000 Bequest Society Members worldwide.

Will you join them by leaving a gift to Rotary in your estate?
